  • mario is an idiot

Always thought Raditz was like the Darth Maul of Dragonball. Wasted potential, “cool” design, and a subset of fans that want him to come back to life very badly.

  • Jack Mask

One this that has bugged me. If Saiyans have the same hair from the day they were born then Raditz must have been mostly a hair ball when he came out.

  • Matt Darrock

Hold on! He’s not in Hell! He’s in the Home For Infinite Loser…

  • Allow me to articulate how much of a wham the beginning of Dragon Ball Z was in context from the perspective of those who first followed the story from the very start.

“Gasp! The main character has a son! Gasp! The main character has a brother! Gasp! The main character is an alien invader! Gasp! The main character’s son is kidnapped by his brother! Gasp! The main character and the last villain are teaming up! Gasp! The main character and the last villain are losing! GASP!! The main character DIES!!!”

  • Otilio Colon

The best thing to ever happen to Raditz was the what if story in Tenkaichi 2 where he lost his memory and lived with Goku for a while.

  • Valter Eru Östberg

It’d be nice to see some interactions between Raditz and Vegeta & Nappa. What was their dynamic as warriors for Freezer like? Even just Nappa and Vegeta talking about him more, like in the abrigded series would have been kind of fun.

  • Michel van der Linden

Radditz was a horribly missed opportunity. They should have sent Nappa first, and have Radditz and Vegeta travel. It would have been interesting to see Goku mentally prepare for the idea he has an evil brother who literally murders most of his friends. That said, Radditz did deliver; the fights were great, and the fact that he could so easily beat the shit out of both goku, AND piccolo, was mindboggling. Plus, it allowed the introduction of Gohan’s Hidden Powers. All in all, I would have liked seeing Radditz return at some point. Shame.

  • RawkHawk2010

The hyperlink for “Follow us on Twitter:” is broken, just so you guys know.

  • Shaddy

Raditz and Vegeta might as well have been the same person.

    • DreadKaiser

couldn’t be more opposite, for all his talk on Saiyan Pride, Raditz had none. he started begging the literal instant he was in over his head (or rather, his tail)

  • Plectrophenax

    Fair placement.

I actually remember reading the chapter in the manga when he first appeared and thinking to myself what this sudden revelation could change. Very memorable for that alone.

  • John Krauss

Oh man, what if they brought back Raditz in Super. He discovered how to be come a SS3 by watching his brother. And then he starts wrecking shit.

    • AdamStambaugh

SS3 Raditz? I’m just imagining a golden Cousin Itt at that point.

  • Domehammer

Part of me dreams of Super just going nuts and Vegeta revives the Saiyan Race along with Raditz and Nappa. Would make a better arc than any arc Super has had so far. Saiyans are the only ones who can be strong enough to fight villains in series… so expand main cast roster some more.

  • Runic

    hey its me ur brother

  • SierraLarson

Ah, Raditz… Such a waste. You could’ve became good. You could’ve taught Goku about his Saiyan heritage, about your parents, you could’ve had a happy life on Earth.

    • Domehammer

I’d pair Raditz with blonde haired Launch, would be hilarious to see them interact.

      • SierraLarson

I already ship her with Tien, though the interactions /would/ be entertaining.

      • TobeGrendizer92

Coincidentally, I’m in the middle of reading a 158-part fanfic called Break Through the Limit. Guess what happens in it.

    • Kaliaila

That assumes that Raditz knew their parents at all himself.

      • GreatWyrmGold

Raditz was older than Kakarot, so he probably had the chance to at least be actively ignored. And hey, that’s something to tell your little brother.

      • SierraLarson

I think he did. How much is up for debate, but I think he knew them well enough to give Goku a general description.

  • Michael Kohl

I Liked his hair and then he died…. wow now I’m having danganronpa flashbacks

  • Mann Time

Huh, with all of the influence (both in setting the stage for DBZ and his design) Raditz has on the series, I would’ve thought he’d be higher.

    • Deecks

I think that influence is the entire reason he’s at 14th – that, and being responsible for Goku’s first death. If the “alien” revelation had come at literally any other point besides Raditz, I’m pretty sure he’d have placed at least four spaces lower.

      • Domehammer

Major Metallatron scans kid Goku and it says alien. So the terminator like robot guy did it first.

  • Will Bertazzo

Raditz better than Nappa and Broly? …I mean… everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.

  • Jett Piper

He might come back one day 😀

  • Jeff Showalter
  • MegaKat

I actually have a theory that hey can flare their ki to dry themselves off after bathing. I reckon that would definitely come in handy for someone with Raddy’s ridiculously long hair.

  • Legorhin

I’m still waiting for a Dragon Ball villain, i guess its a good sign they haven’t shown up yet

    • Deecks

Now that they’re inching in on the top ten, I think we’ll be seeing one soon. Wonder who’ll be the first to pop up? If we’re this deep in, we’re probably not gonna see Rabbit Boss or Devilman, so that leaves… Pilaf, the Red Ribbon, Tao, Tien, King Piccolo, and Piccolo Junior. I think Junior might be the first – great though he was as a hero, he really didn’t have much going on as a villain besides a few cool fights and a desire for revenge.

Major Z villains left… Vegeta, the Ginyu Force, Freeza, Androids 17 and 18, Cell, Babidi, Buu. That’s seven villains. Add in the six above, and it’s pretty much positive that we’ll be seeing a major one soon.

      • Zack Seiders

To be fair it was around king piccalo’s arch that the series as a whole gotten dark. Few villains that for most part succeeded in overall goals (I know damage was undone in the end) “still met his end via goku… all because king piccalo did not go over kill when he had the chance.”

  • Breeze Dorling

How is he so high on the list? #DBcember

    • DreadKaiser

because THIS is the guy that turned Dragonball into Dragonball Z
his introduction changed the series forever

King Piccolo is probably the only one wiht a bigger impact than him

  • GreatWyrmGold

It’s hard to overemphasize how much more could have been done with Raditz…but even harder to overemphasize the impact he had on the franchise. He might have been just a little butterfly, but he caused one heck of a hurricane.

  • Dan Bishop

Raditz would look really crazy as a super saiyan, especially SSJ3.

  • Turkey Vulture

You know, considering how much of a joke Raditz is nowadays, it’s pretty jarring re-reading the manga and seeing how intimidating he was when he first appeared.
On another note, it’d be kinda interesting to see how Toriyama would’ve written the manga had he never come up with the idea of making Goku an alien. I remember hearing that he already planned on making Piccolo one (hence his Namekian-language conversation with Kami during the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai), but for all I’m aware of Goku’s alien origins were just another on-the-spot thought.

    • v1rtuez

I believe when Goku fought King Piccolo, Piccolo said that no human could defeat him, and Goku said he had a tail so he guessed he wasn’t human. Maybe he was thinking about it for a while.

    • Freezerguy

Doesn’t Metallitron’s scanner say Goku isn’t human? Or was that anime filler or a dub change?

      • Turkey Vulture

The bit with Full Metal Jacket’s scanner is a filler-ism.

  • Margaret Price

He may not have been meant to be memorable, but thanks to DBZA’s use of him as a measuring rod of weak (and the all new Raditz Menu at Spacies) he’s remembered longer than in the actual series. I’ve even named my Oddish in PoGo Raditz.

  • Stache Hand

Even Raditz, old punching bag Raditz, the guy who is only as strong as a single Saibaiman, is higher up on the list than the Legendary Broccoli Yasai, Brock.

Can’t wait until we get through all the table scraps of Dragon Ball villainy.

    • Chris Slater

      HE IS A GOD!

  • BlueMageBrilly

Raditz is definitely a bit of wasted potential. While I’d never trade Vegeta for anyone else, I still feel that Raditz definitely gets the short end of the stick when it comes to the Saiyans being pushed forward and wouldn’t have minded him being the first one to “redeem” himself. Even Goten, probably the least liked Saiyan in the series right now, has better personality and overall potential than he does, without having done much beyond being part of Gotenks.

It’s also pretty apparent that no one cares about Goku having a blood relative that they actually know about. No one even considers that ‘If Goku could become a good guy, and especially Vegeta, then why not Raditz?’ Ultimately, though, we can’t really fault Toriyama for this because that’s simply how he wrote Goku. Goku simply does not care for his family one bit beyond simply being friends with them. He’d never wish their death, but he wouldn’t actually care that much if they died, though that’s more of a Dragon Ball thing I guess. Makes me wonder if he even knows what Chichi’s favorite color is, though.

It’s doubtful we’ll ever see Raditz return and until we get a proper “What if?” game that tries to cover all the bases, we won’t see what could have been, either. Just like with Nappa, though, I’m hoping he gets some eventual coverage as an actual threat or a new character. .. but it’s very unlikely.

    • Fiere

Goku cares about his family, just not in the traditional sense. He allowed gohan to become what he wanted to be and does what chi chi tells him to do even though he doesn’t have to.

Plus chi chi tricked him into marrying her, anyway.

      • Zachary Navakuku

Chi Chi #1 Villain. The only one to get what she wanted and not be killed for it.

      • BlueMageBrilly

He allowed Gohan to be what he wanted, but he doesn’t stop complaining about it from what I can tell. Vegeta just says ‘Huh, that’s a shame’, but Goku actively complains about it when it becomes the subject.

Like I said, I don’t think he wants them to die or anything, but he definitely doesn’t love them in the traditional sense. He’s super self centered.

      • DreadKaiser

Not really tricked if he didn’t know what he was agreeing to was

      • Chris Litwin

DreadKaiser, I’d say that’s the very definition of being tricked. It’s easier to pull one over when you know something the person you’re trying to fool doesn’t.

      • DreadKaiser

I’d say that’s the definition of being a sheep

“I don’t know what X Is, but I’m going to agree anyway instead of asking”

      • Chris Litwin

That’s not quite it; you may know something somebody else knows, and it might be vital, but it also might not be connected in an obvious manner or something a person would normally think about. In Goku’s case, he was just his usual idiotic, food-obsessed self. Knowledge pertaining to weddings and such just wasn’t common for him, having lived in the mountains in his early life and gone on to fight opponents across the world. As such, his exposure to that was very limited. If someone else was there to offer knowledge and perspective, like Krillan for example, the situation would’ve had a different result.

      • DreadKaiser

problem is, to trick him, by definition Chi Chi would had to have taken advantage of his lack of knowledge or otherwise coerce or deceive him.

She didn’t, She asked, He accepted. as simple as that
That is a lot of things, but Trickery isn’t one of them. His ignorance is not her fault

lack of knowledge does not equal being tricked
if I walk into a university lecture on WWII, The lecturer mentions Facist Italy and I say “Mussolini was a great guy” (Godwins law averted) and understandably get weird looks, does that constitute being tricked? no it means I’m a fucking moron talking about things I did not understand.

      • Chris Litwin

I completely agree. You are right. That said, I did say Chi Chi did not know Goku didn’t know, and I did call Goku a food-obsessed idiot. It’s only a trick if one person is taking advantage of another person’s lack of knowledge.

      • GreatWyrmGold

        I’d say you’re both right.

      • Chris Litwin

It didn’t help that Goku didn’t understand what marriage was in the first place (and to be fair, Chi Chi didn’t really know that Goku didn’t know) and wound up leaving her high and dry for several years on the promised relationship. Let me put this into perspective: Goku married her because he felt bad. Love may have resulted from it eventually, but it ultimately came down to Goku feeling bad for having hurt Chi Chi’s feelings. …Well, I’ve heard of worse foundations for relationships. #DBcember

    • Deecks

I remember a quote from hbi2k that went something like “I tried to make a Goku/Chi-Chi AMV years ago, and it was astounding how much filler I had to sift through to find footage of a MARRIED COUPLE INTERACTING.”

    • Will Bertazzo

I don’t even see any good coming from bringing Radditz back. It’s been pretty well established that none of the villains except for Vegeta, frieza or cooler train, at least not in any way that shows a tangible improvement. There was a time when I would have been pumped to see Radditz come back if he did something really unexpected like reveal that he gained the ability to go Super Saiyan (Geez, imagine his hair at SSJ3) but nowadays nobody is doing any new hair styles for Saiyans anymore. Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Blue and Trunks’ Super Saiyan 2 form all recycle previously used hair designs. that last one is especially stupid because they already had one before and now just got rid of it. And that’s what the franchise has almost exclusively been since the end of Z, a bunch of good ideas wasted.

      • BlueMageBrilly

In the way Z or Super is now, I agree. Raditz coming back wouldn’t do much. If they fixed the forumla, made transformations more interesting, and stopped focusing on Goku/Vegeta too much, then there might be something there. But I agree that as it is now, having Raditz come back and be a Super Saiyan wouldn’t really… do anything.

        It’s still a shame.

      • DreadKaiser

        not necessarily

one thing I wished they’d do was give the lesser heroes their own villain
have some Ginyu force level opponent show up while Goku & Vegeta are off training with Whis. just have Tien and the others tell Gohan “go deal with your family/job/whatever, we got this one”. even if it was insignificant in the grand scheme of things

just because 99% of the universe is no threat to Goku doesn’t mean some lesser opponent can’t show up to give the Non-saiyans something to do other than train offscreen.

for Raditz though…..I can’t imagine him coming back without some Fusion Rebron style shit going down in Hell. Maybe his and Nappa’s Universe 6 counterparts?

      • Kerrus

They actually printed a SSJ3 Raditz in Dragon Ball Heroes 3, and it is as glorious as you might imagine.

      • DreadKaiser

        wen SS4 Raditz

      • OneWingedRose

        wen ss4 Broly

      • DreadKaiser

Also a thing already, thanks to Heroes

      • GreatWyrmGold

        Everyone has everything in Heroes.

      • DreadKaiser

Does Nappa have Hair in Heroes?

      • GreatWyrmGold

        Facial hair.

      • Will Bertazzo

I am somehow both impressed and dissappointed.

      • Fishy Despoiler

Whoa….I could live inside that hair

      • GreatWyrmGold

Since the end of Z? Dragon Ball’s been wasting good ideas since before Z. Toriyama may be better at coming up with near ideas than figuring out what to do with them.

    • Kaliaila

Semi spoiler from Super, Goku and Chichi have never kissed; have had 2 kids but not kissed.

      • Agent Ste

they kissed in the Cell Saga. At least in the anime

      • Kaliaila

I mean a lover’s kiss not on on the cheek.

    • Matt Darrock

Buddy, we just learnt not long ago about Goku never having kissed Chi Chi. I think that says it all about his family skills.

  • Jeevan Thomas

Man, coming out of Saiyan pods after years of travel, conquest, and festering odours much be like the most satisfying thing

  • Duke

Hah! Raditz is higher on the list than Broly!

    • Nicholas Howell

Raditz is higher than Nappa. Let that sink in.

      • JD Dorfman

Ouch. Gonna need a Senzu for that one.

      • John Lienhart

Is it the hair? I bet it’s the hair.

      • saturn0205 .

His impact is stronger, since it was Raditz who first introduced the Saiyans to the series.

    • Matt Darrock

Broly wouldn<t stand a chance against either Hercule Satan or Yamcha… Because they are the two most powerful characters in DBZ

  • Michael Johnson

U don’t know what a Raditz is, but he sounds like Yamcha

    • Malcolm Williams

At least Yamcha is a baseball player. Raditz is cliched villain #4 aka someone the protagonist knows whose only goal is plot exposition

    • Cylestea

i dont known what a Yamcha is but it sounds disappointing

    • Deecks

      “Oh, he died.”

  • Bzdanof

Raditz ,now that yamcha redeemed himself in the latest dbs episode ,
You are now the most useless character in the franchise !

  • Ken Krumbach

Well at least Raddits is more memorable then Tarble. I mean outside of Raging Blast we have not seen him since the “Hey Son Goku and his friends are back!” special. You would think he would have come back for Super by now. Hell Tarble being part of the god ritual would have made way more sense then Videl pregnant with Pan.

    • GreatWyrmGold

Tarble was mentioned in the movie. I don’t remember if they explained why they didn’t have Shenron bring him to Earth while they had him summoned.

      • Sailor Mewni

Because giving them the info on how to create a SSG counted as their wish

      • Deecks

Shenron can grant two wishes ever since the Cell Games, remember?

      • MusubiKazesaru

        Apparently it’s now three somehow?

      • GreatWyrmGold

The official rule has always been “Three, or two if one is used to resurrect a lot of people”. Which it always is.

      • Sailor Mewni

Remember, he ran off in fear after granting the first one. Besides, I love the “Saiyan Child in Videl’s womb counting as the 5th” plot point. Because it was a good way to include her in the plot, and I might be biased because Videl is one of my favorite characters.

      • GreatWyrmGold

The dragon can grant three after Dende made them. Unless one of them is used for bringing back a lot of people (which it always is).

  • Q-dude

He was never suppose to be a long lasting, highly memorable, powerful villain his only role was to set off the DBZ story. Which in my opinion considering what DBZ would become makes his character more deserving of praise than he gets cause without him there’d be no DBZ.

    • GreatWyrmGold

It’s still weird that he had no legacy beyond ushering in Z. I mean, he’s Goku’s freaking brother! Family shouldn’t be left on the ground to rot and then just be forgotten.

      • Fishy Despoiler

But when a you are weak as Saibaman…when even your youngest nephew manage to reach Super-sayan at 7 years old. Ya’ know. Sometimes is better disappear from history out of shame.

      • Alex Palo

Do you remember him kicking piccolo and goku asses? It was awesome to see the strongest (and antagonist) characters in DB team up and being overpowered anyway. How the f*ck could that ends! Now we know: Goku died. Raditz only looks weak because after knowing the sayans were going to earth, everyone else trained as insane(except Yamcha). Even Vegeta after being defeated started training to get stronger. Raditz never had the chance to train himself, otherwise he could be stronger than everyone except Goku and Vegeta. bc you know? he’s just saiyan

      • GreatWyrmGold

King Piccolo was weaker still, and he had more of a legacy in Dragon Ball. Heck, Chiaotzu had more of a legacy!

  • HikaruYami

Not really liking how long we have to manually enter the url for the video before the link actually appears on the DBcember page 😛

  • Sailor Mewni

This guy ain’t no Rad Ditz! No He a Bad Ditz!

  • NewK00paUSA

“Guy who’s as strong as a Saibamen says what?”

    • John Lienhart
